Coffee with a view and a friend.

I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.

Over the river and through the woods…To Frankie’s Place we go!

My husband and I have been visiting Acadia since 1989. We have stayed in B&Bs, hotels, and rental cottages. A couple of years ago, we discovered Frankie’s Place. What a wonderful surprise it was. Perched on the rocky shore of Somes Sound, it revealed itself to us over an amazing week.

We arrived after dark on a rainy night in October. It wasn’t easy to find the rutted drive in the woods. We drove several times up and down the dirt road before finding the weathered house number on a tree. It was so dark, it was impossible to see what was driveway and what was not. We ended up just stopping the car and going through the trees to a dim light shining through them.

Cold and wet, we found the key that the cleaners left for us and staggered inside. We were so tired, and it was so dark that we just found a bed and passed out. Content to get our bearings once the sun was up.

What I woke up to was breathtaking. Incredibly rustic, with amazing views and a massive stone fireplace. As I sat on the deck drinking my first cup of coffee, I heard tiny feet tapping on the deck. The next thing I knew, a little chipmunk was sitting at my feet, sporting a look that said, “Hungry Chipmunk here, a little consideration, please!”

At any rate, that little chippie had coffee with me every morning. He would come right up to the kitchen window and watch me while I made coffee. Turns out the owners of the cottage have been making friends with the chipmunks for decades. They even left exceptional food for the chipmunks and the birds.

And the porch crops! Even in the fall, flowers and herbs grew in pots on the deck. It was a joy to come home every night and cook something delicious using herbs from the deck.
Frankie’s Place is rustic, but it has everything you need. It is quiet and private and has stunningly beautiful natural surroundings. Just a few minutes and you are in Acadia National Park and a short walk down the road for the AMAZING Abel’s Lobster Pound.
We have been back three times, and this place never fails to amaze us.

Thank you for sharing, Frankie!
